# Kiierr vs Illumiflow: Which Laser Cap Should You Buy?

Kiierr vs Illumiflow comes down to price and refund terms, because the two brands sell close to the same laser caps. Illumiflow costs less at almost every laser count, with the 272 Pro at $899 against $1,199 for the Kiierr 272 Premier as of October 12, 2026. Kiierr gives you an earlier refund decision, at seven months instead of twelve.

We did not wear or test either cap. We read the FDA clearance files for both brands, each brand's product pages, warranty and refund policies, published research on laser caps, and a sample of owner reviews, then compared them side by side.

Short answer

Choose Illumiflow if price matters most: its FDA-cleared 272 Pro has the same 272 lasers and 30-minute schedule as the Kiierr 272 Premier for $300 less. Choose Kiierr if you want a refund decision at seven months rather than twelve. Both brands make solid, laser-only caps for pattern thinning.

## How do Kiierr and Illumiflow compare on specs?

The two lineups mirror each other. Both brands sell a 148-laser starter cap, a 272-laser flagship, a 302-laser flexible cap, and two DualWave caps that add 808 nm near-infrared lasers. All of them use 650 nm red lasers at 5 mW each. The table puts the flagship caps side by side, then lists the rest of each lineup.

## Which brand wins each category?

Here is how the two brands line up, category by category. In several places they are a genuine tie.

### Price: Illumiflow

Illumiflow costs less at every laser count except the 148, where both brands charge $799. The gap is $300 on the 272 flagship, $400 on the XL and 302 caps, $300 on the 272 DualWave, and $500 on the 312 DualWave. Over the first year, the Illumiflow 272 Pro works out to about $75 a month, against about $100 a month for the Kiierr 272 Premier. Illumiflow's FAQ also says you can pay with an FSA or HSA card at checkout.

### Lasers per dollar: Illumiflow

The Illumiflow 272 Pro is the best value in either lineup at $3.31 per laser. The Kiierr 272 Premier comes next at $4.41 per laser, which is also Kiierr's best ratio. If you want the most lasers for your money from Kiierr, the 272 Premier is the one to pick.

### FDA clearance: a tie

Each brand has two caps with FDA clearance: its 148-laser cap and its 272-laser flagship. The cleared uses are the same word for word, and the cleared caps share the same 650 nm lasers and 30-minute schedule. The section below has the details.

### Schedule: a tie

Both brands offer the same two routines. The 148 and 272 caps run 30 minutes every other day. The 302 and DualWave caps run 6 minutes a day, and Illumiflow says its 6-minute caps switch on only when the cap is on your head. If you want the shorter daily session, Illumiflow's 302 Flex at $1,399 is the lowest-priced way to get it from either brand.

### Warranty: Illumiflow, by a small margin

Both brands give you a 2-year warranty and sell a 3-year extension. Illumiflow's warranty also covers one battery, one cord, and one charger at no cost if they fail in normal use during those two years. Batteries come up often in owner reviews of both brands, so that extra coverage is useful. Illumiflow sells its extension for $99, and you must add it when you buy the cap. Kiierr lets you add its extension within 45 days.

### Refund: Kiierr for speed, Illumiflow for trial length

Kiierr lets you ask for a refund on days 210 to 240, so you know where you stand at about seven months. Illumiflow asks you to use the cap for a full year and request the refund on days 365 to 395. That longer window lines up with the six to twelve months both brands say it takes to see the clearest change. Both programs charge a 25% fee, and both waive it if you send monthly progress photos (7 photos for Kiierr, 12 for Illumiflow).

## Are Kiierr and Illumiflow FDA cleared?

Yes, for their 148-laser and 272-laser caps. Cleared means the FDA found each cap substantially equivalent to a laser device already on the market. It is a different FDA pathway from approval.

- **Illumiflow 272:** [FDA 510(k) K162071](https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm?ID=K162071), decided February 24, 2017. The summary describes 272 red lasers at 650 nm and 5 mW each.
- **Illumiflow 148:** [FDA 510(k) K173843](https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm?ID=K173843), decided January 26, 2018, with 30-minute sessions every other day.
- **Kiierr 148 Pro and 272 Premier:** [FDA 510(k) K181878](https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm?ID=K181878), decided September 5, 2018.

All three clearances cover the same use: promoting hair growth in men with androgenetic alopecia at Norwood-Hamilton stages IIa to V, and women at Ludwig-Savin stages I to II, with skin types I to IV.

The clearance files name the 148 and 272 caps. If you are choosing a 302, DualWave, or XL model from either brand and FDA status matters to you, ask Kiierr or Illumiflow which clearance applies to that model before you order.

## Do Kiierr and Illumiflow caps work?

The research on laser caps as a group is encouraging. A [2019 meta-analysis of 11 double-blind trials](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30706177/) found more hair density with low-level laser devices than with sham devices, and a 2025 review of 38 studies reached a similar result. A 2021 meta-analysis found laser-only devices did better than devices that mix lasers and LEDs. Kiierr and Illumiflow caps both use lasers only.

Results vary a lot from trial to trial, and we found no published trial of either brand's cap itself, so the category research is the best guide to what you can expect. Our guide to [whether laser caps work](/do-laser-caps-work/) walks through the studies in plain terms.

Both brands say the clearest change shows up at six to twelve months. Plan on at least four to six months of steady use before you judge either cap, and take a photo each month in the same light.

## What do owners say about Kiierr and Illumiflow?

Owner reviews for both brands tell a similar story. The people who describe good results usually mention four months or more of regular use. Many longer-term Illumiflow owners describe less shedding and holding on to the hair they have, and several report fuller hair after a year or more.

Batteries are one of the most common hardware topics for both brands. Several Illumiflow owners praise how quickly support sent a replacement battery. Fit comes up for both brands too: their standard 148 and 272 caps are designed to sit a little higher on the head, so measure your head before you order.

Kiierr has the larger pool of public owner reviews. Our [full Kiierr review](/kiierr-review/) covers what Kiierr owners report in more detail.

## Should you choose Kiierr or Illumiflow?

**Choose Kiierr if you…**

- want a refund checkpoint at about seven months instead of twelve
- like having a 45-day window to decide on the extended warranty
- prefer the brand with more public owner reviews to read first

**Choose Illumiflow if you…**

- want 272 FDA-cleared lasers at the lowest price ($899)
- want a 6-minute daily cap for less (302 Flex at $1,399)
- like a warranty that includes a free replacement battery
- plan to give the cap a full year, which matches its refund window

Laser caps are for gradual pattern thinning. If your hair loss is sudden or patchy, or comes with scalp pain or a rash, see a dermatologist first. Check with your doctor too if you are pregnant, take medicine that makes you sensitive to light, or have a skin condition on your scalp.

## Kiierr vs Illumiflow: which is better overall?

For most buyers, the Illumiflow 272 Pro is the better value. It matches the Kiierr 272 Premier on lasers, wavelength, schedule, and type of FDA clearance, and it costs $300 less. Its warranty also covers a replacement battery.

The Kiierr 272 Premier is the better pick if you want to know sooner whether the cap is right for you. Its refund window opens at day 210, five months earlier than Illumiflow's. Either way, you are buying a well-matched, FDA-cleared, laser-only cap.
